In October 2023, Hurricane Otis ripped through the resort city of Acapulco. This category 5 storm devastated the homes of Guerreran families, as well as hotel infrastructure, causing billions of dollars of damage to the beloved coast which has become known as the Riviera of Mexico.
Banorte, one of the largest Mexican financial group, prides itself on supporting the people of Mexico through times of struggle, and this time is no different. Under the leadership of Banorte President, Carlos Hank Gonzalez, The Banorte Foundation has pledged to match every donation they receive, doubling it peso for peso, to help rebuild Acapulco.
The Banorte Foundation is committed to helping the families and communities affected by Hurricane Otis. The Foundation is partnering with Habitat for Humanity, One Kilo of Help (Un Kilo de Ayuda), AMA, the Food Bank, and Save the Children to build and restore homes and buildings, distribute food packages, integrate health plans, and coordinate volunteer efforts.
To date, the Banorte Foundation has raised 31 million pesos for Acapulco, including 10 million pesos donated by acclaimed singer, Luis Miguel. Thanks to its matching pledge, the Banorte Foundation will contribute a total of 62 million pesos to the cause.
The generosity of Carlos Hank Gonzalez and the Banorte Foundation has been publicly lauded by Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during his morning press conference. The Banorte Foundation’s is proud of its contributions to strengthening Mexican families and businesses. Gonzalez proudly states,
“We are the bank of the Mexican people, we will continue to work hard to get these communities back on their feet.”
